Jason Nash reports on the last days of this year’s salmon season on the River Bandon…

River Bandon
Closing day on the Bandon

30 September: This was recorded at midday today. Water clarity is relatively good and would be OK for spinning. I would think that further up river may be OK for fly later but I suspect it’s still running a little high. Enjoy the dying hours of the fishing season if you manage to get out!

I managed to get in a few hours this afternoon. I got a pull from an angry fish but didn’t connect unfortunately. However, I met a club member who was rewarded with a fine fresh fish of 7-8lb for his efforts. There have been a lot of fish caught on the free stretch at the bogs today too. Well! Season 2017 is closed and countdown is already on for 15th February 2018. Speed on wintertime!!!

Go Fishing…

Kilcoleman Fishery, Enniskeane, is renowned for its hospitality. The owners David and Patricia Lamb make a particular effort to make their guests feel at home. Past visitors have described the atmosphere as ‘laid back’ and the accommodations as ‘cosy’. Kilcoleman is “fly only” throughout the entire season. However, in certain water conditions, spinning is permitted for salmon. Trout angling is “fly only” at all times.
