Owenea quiet as water levels low

Monday 29^th May  to Sunday 11^th June 2017

The Owenea was plagued by low water for over the first week. The second week brought higher levels but still lower than desirable except for 1 good (but dirty) flood reading 0.40m which occurred on Saturday 10^th June. The gauge average over the fortnight read 0.14 metres. The fishery was fairly quiet with only 15 visiting rods fishing over the fortnight. To date we have 7 salmon recorded in the register.

On the 30^th May, Alan Watson recorded an 8½lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 8. On the 1^st June Alan reported a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 8. On the 4^th Alan logged a 3lb grilse caught & released on a fly from beat 8. On the 6^th, Michael McCrory recorded a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 7. On the 9^th, Alan Watson logged a 7½lb salmon caught on a fly from beat 8. On the 11^th, John Joe Doherty reported a 3lb grilse caught on a spinner from beat 9 and Paul Brennan accounted for an 8lb salmon caught on a spinner from beat 9.
