Terry Gallagher has the angling report from Costello & Fermoyle Fisheries for june so far…

After a very long dry period we finally got our first flood in months on the the night of 9th June. As soon as the river started to rise salmon & sea trout held up in Casla Bay started to pour into the system and the fishing really kicked off. In a period of 9 days 17 salmon & 5 sea were landed bringing the total for the season so far to 19 salmon & 8 sea trout.

First salmon of the season fell to Micheal Dillon, a cracking fish of 7lbs 8ozs taken from the Cabbage Pool on River Beat 1 (RB1) with a size 12 Silver Stoat.. Next up was Padhraic McDonagh with a grilse of 3lbs 8ozs also from the Cabbage pool. Sean Kelly was thrilled to record 6 salmon ranging 3lbs 8ozs to 7lbs over 2 days. All were bars of silver and all fell to a size 12 Black Shrimp. Geoffrey Fitzjohn had a very successful four and a half hours on the middle river where he landed 3 salmon, 2 of 5lbs and 1 of 6lbs. All fresh and all yet again all were taken on a size 12 Black Shrimp.

John Maloney & Neil Spellacy fished RB1. John landed 2 grilse of 4lbs as well as a cracking sea trout of 2lbs. Neil was not disappointed with his day as he banked a salmon of 4lbs.

Finally, Brian Curran, was delighted to catch his 1st ever Casla salmon while he fished the inflow to Fermoyle Lough. Another 4lbs bar of silver taken on a Teal Blue & Silver.

At the time of writing, fish are appearing on the tides which promises plenty of more sport to come.

Go fishing…
