ROYAL CANAL CRACKER.
The Royal Canal here in Mullingar produced one of the best pike for some time last week, as 8 years old Eoin Conway latched onto a 16lbs 2oz pike. Eoin from Oak Lawns will be the toast of St Mary’s C.B.S where he goes to school next week as we managed to get a wonderful photograph of Eoin and his prized catch. Richie Ward was fishing with Eoin and his dad Gerard, and big thanks for this super picture of Eoin.
NEWMAN WINS MURTAGH CUP.
Popular local Mechanic Bernie Newman of Lynn Cross was firing on all cylinders last Sunday on Derravaragh. The club hosted the Murtagh Cup, and the Christmas pike competition. It was a bit chilly on the lake but at lease the rain stayed away for the competition hours. Just a few small pike were caught and Bernie Newman fishing with son Ciaran was crowned Top Rod. I had a bit of luck and finished 2nd, with my angling pal Frank McKeon 3rd. Also in the prizes were Ciaran Newman, Pat Finglus, and young Adam Meehan. Competition captain Christy Hynes of Killucan thanked all who supported the Derravaragh competition in 2017 and hopes to see all members back out on the lake come 2018. Kieran Evans presented Bernie Newman with Murtagh Cup.

PHILIP MOFFATT CUP.
Derravaragh anglers hosted the 24th Philip Moffat Memorial Cup for pike last Sunday 12thNovember on Derravaragh, and we fished from 11am-4pm. It was a crisp dry day, but at times a bit choppy if you ventured well out into the Lake. Saying this it settled down from lunchtime, and was near perfect condition for trolling and spinning. The fishing was tough and only a handful of small pike were presented at the 4pm finish at Donore Shore. It was local anglers that swept the boards, with Chairman Liam Gilsenan of Multyfarnham taking top rod. This was Liam’s first time to win the Moffat Cup, and was delighted as was his fishing pal Christy Cox also of Multyfarnham.Kevin Keogh also Multyfarnham finished 2nd, and Kevin fished with Pat Finglus of Castlepollard and Eddie O, Donnell from Mullingar. Pat Finglus finished 3rd on the day. Presentation took place at Donore Shore and Tanya Breslin daughter of the late Philip presented the winners with prizes. Competition Christy Hynes thanked all who fished on the day, and members of the Moffatt family who once again turned out in numbers for the weigh-in and presentation.
