IFI officers continue to remove carp mortalities from The Lough and Belvelly Lake, taking 50 carp from the Lough on 17th May and bringing the total combined count from both locations to over 1000.

It is now 2 weeks since the first report of ailing carp from the Lough, which was quickly followed by massive mortalities. IFI awaits further results from the Marine Institute who expect to have their analysis and testing completed by the middle of next week. A meeting between IFI, MI and Cork County Council will take place at that time.

While there is no indication of carp affected by CEV elsewhere, given the continued deaths of carp at the Lough and Belvelly Lake the suspension of angling will continue at Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid for at least the next 2 weeks i.e. until 31st May, while monitoring of other local waters will continue.
