Lindsey Clarke reports that there were fair water levels over the week. The gauge read 0.23m on Monday and rose to 0.55m on Friday. By the end of the week the gauge was once again reading 0.53m. The river fished well over the week and some 24 salmon were caught consisting of double figure fish and grilse. Given here are some of the catches. On Tuesday, Julian Ciconte recorded a 12lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Grazings having just hooked and lost a fish estimated at 18lb plus!
On Wednesday, Stephen Scott reported a 10½lb salmon caught on prawn from the Washstones. Jonny McBrearty logged a 6lb salmon caught on a fly from the Mill Pool and Chris McDaid reported 3 salmon weighing 8, 8 & 10lb caught on a Mepps spinner from Four Master’s to Lennox’s Bridge with 2 of these being released again.
On Thursday, Eddie Roulston recorded a 4½lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Lennox’s. Darryl Kennedy reported a 7½lb salmon caught on prawn from The Meadow. Michael Joyce logged a 5lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Briney’s and Chris McDaid caught and released a 5lb grilse on a Flying ‘C’ lure from Spa Well.
On Saturday, Paul Cardy recorded an 8lb salmon caught on a fly from the Mill Pool. On Sunday, Michael McEvoy reported 2 salmon weighing 8 & 10lb caught on prawn from the Mill Pool with one of these being released again.
There have been decent rain showers this week so far so water levels should remain good as do prospects for the coming week J

River Drowes
The Drowes Fishery is one of Ireland’s premier spring salmon and grilse fisheries. The river is some 5 miles in length, with over 70 named pools, flowing from Lough Melvin at Lareen Bay and entering the sea at Tullaghan, just outside Bundoran. The Drowes has a wide variety of water suitable for all fishing methods, including several miles of good fly water and deeper slower moving pools suitable for spinning and bait fishing.
