Billy Thornton in our Ballina Office reports that conditions on the River Moy were far from ideal last week with low water, bright sunshine and high temperatures reducing angling effort considerably on the previous week. However 148 salmon were reported caught throughout the system.

Among the lucky anglers on the Moy Fishery were Jonathan Smith Cavan 9.25 lbs on fly – Ridge Pool, Roy Wearing UK. 4.5 lbs+, 8.75 lbs & 8lbs+ on fly released – Ridge Pool, Martin Davison NI. 5.5 lbs on fly – Weir Pool, Pat O’Leary Limerick 9.75 lbs on Fly – Cathedral Beat, Oisin Faul, Ballina 12 lbs on worm – Beat 4 The Point.

Upstream of Ballina Steve Hopper, UK, had a fish of 8.5 lbs on Bubble & Fly – Coolcronan Fishery. Tom Mallon NI. Had 2 fish of 6 lbs each on Bubble & Fly – Armstrongs Fishery. Raymond Crawford NI. 8 lbs on worm – Foxford Fishery. Gary McNamara Offaly 4 lbs on worm – Cloongee Fishery and Gunter Propanter Austria 5 lbs on fly + 5 lbs on worm – East Mayo Anglers.

With a good show of fish on most fisheries and the numbers of grilse moving into the river on each tide increasing, prospects are looking good for the week ahead.
