Osgur Grieve reports with all the enws from the River Erriff…
The following is the angling report for the Erriff for the period August 9th – 15th. With the lower water last week anglers found evening time to fish best. On Thursday 9th regular visitor Stephen Jones fished the evening on beat 9 and released a small wild grilse of 2.75lbs. from the falls pool, this grilse took a Collie dog tube. Stephen fished again the next evening and released another wild grilse of 2lbs. from the lower garden pool on a Stoat’s tail. On Sunday 12th Owen Trill fished with us on beat 4 and released a wild grilse of 4.5lbs on a Stoat’s tail. Monday 13th saw the return of regular angler Brian Noonan, he had a fantastic evening releasing 2 salmon of 8lbs. and 14lbs. from the falls and lost another. This was an exceptional evenings fishing and shows what potential this river really has to the lucky angler! On Wednesday 15th Jim Stafford fished for the day and released 2 wild grilse from the falls pool on beat 9 and Poleen on Beat 4, both fish came to a Cascade variant and weighed 5.5lbs and 3lbs. respectively. Regular visitor Glen Harmon also fished that day and released a fine wild salmon of 8lbs from Low banks on beat 4 on a McCormick shrimp.
There are some fresh fish still entering the system and with the forecast for broken weather for the weekend I’m expecting the good fishing to continue.
