19/2/18 Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front, so on that note we will head straight to the action down stream to the World Famous Butler Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie where local fly only Angler Mr. Kevin O’Shea, who has taken all the limelight so far this season and continued that trait today on the Pool when he caught himself a cracker of a 9 lbs. Salmon on the fly. Not satisfied with that, Kevin headed straight to the Waterville Inn to be presented with the Paddy Carey Memorial Cup by the Landlord of the Waterville Inn Mr. Damian Duff this evening for catching the first Salmon of 2018 on the 8/2/18 and staying in the Cup department, Local Angler Mr. Jim Sayers was presented with Waterville Inn Sea Trout Cup again by the Landlord of the Waterville Inn Mr. Damian Duff for the Biggest Sea Trout in 2017 caught on Lough Derriana, which weighed in at 6.68 lbs. Wind SW then veered NW light to fresh. Yesterdays weather, amount of rainfall 10.4mm. Maximum air temperature 11.9c.
20/2/18 The Lough Currane long wait is over, local angler Mr. Mike O’Dwyer melted the Lough Currane ice in style this morning, while trolling, Mike caught a lightening fresh 7 lbs. Salmon and as Mike netted his Fish he said catching the first of the 2018 after a long wait is special and there is no argument to that and what Mike did next is even more special, in Mikes own words, The first salmon caught on the lake in 2018 was netted this morning by local angler Mike Dwyer.

The salmon will be and was auctioned off this evening at 7pm in the Lobster Bar. The proceeds will be donated to the palliative care unit in University Hospital Kerry on behalf of the Foley family, Beenbane, in memory of John Foley RIP who passed away while under their care on January 8th. There was a good atmosphere in anticipation of how much would be risen, well we weren’t disappointed, in total so far 560 Euro’s and the winner was Willie Kirwan from Mooncoin, Kilkenny 200 Euro donated , James of the Lobster Bar donated 150, Dan Fitzpatrick An Corcan donated 50, Villa Maria 50, Waterville Boats 50, Anonymous 50 donated, Anonymous 10 donated. Just for the record the Salmon was donated to the Waterville Meals on Wheels. Wind NE light bright and sunny. Yesterdays weather, amount of rainfall, 2.0mm. Maximum air temperature 11.4 c.

21/2/18 Game on as the Salmon rises to the fly on Lough Currane and that honour goes to Kilkenny Angler Mr. Tommy Duggan, while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a cracker of a fresh 10lbs. Salmon on the fly. Now for quote of day and in the words of Supreme Fly Angler and Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, now the pressure is off, well I have news for you, it’s just started !Wind SE light with reasonable cloud cover.
