Mark Gannon of the Lady Louise out of Courtmacsherry reports on a recent wreck fishing trip…
On January 14th at 0730 hrs with a crew of 10 from Dublin, we ventured out south to a wreck in search of Ling. After all the bad weather there was a small weather window promising 8 hours of fishable conditions.
Fishing in the bay for most species would be difficult as the water was very murky from all the stormy weather, even though we have had good skate fishing in those conditions. We made several drifts over the wreck but only managed 10 ling to 15 lbs, a few pollack and coalfish. The wind increased later, so we decided to try the inshore reefs but apart from a good run of medium sized Coalfish and Pollack it was disappointing enough, as we anticipated.
It was good though to get out on our first wrecking trip of 2018,hopefully get some early ones this year for the big Pollack.
Shore fishing
