Chart skipper Donal Kennedy reports on his last trip out on Killala Bay….

On Friday 20th and sat 21st a party of anglers from Northern Ireland set out fishing in Killala Bay aboard the angling boat LEAH. On the first day the weather was overcast with light showers and a fresh north west wind.

Plaice

From the start the fishing was steady with pollack, pouting and lesser spotted dogfish being caught. Later that day we drifted over sandy ground which produced some nice plaice, dabs, tub gurnards and rays.

On the second day the weather was much calmer allowing us to go out deeper. On this drift we had LSD’s, some pollack, pouting, cuckoo wrasse and as the skipper predicted the Spurdog came around in their hundreds and at this stage there was no take with the other fish only Spur. We decided to move to another area which produced some fine ray and flatties. We all  returned safely to harbour having enjoyed the days fishing.

Pollack.
