David Norman reports from West Cork where conditions have improved for bass anglers…
14 July: After weeks of poor conditions (A big onshore blow followed by weeks of dreaded easterlies) I took a drive of the coast one evening to find the wind had finally swung onshore and was purring away creating those ideal Bass fishing conditions I look for here on the South Coast of Ireland. Plans were changed I headed home to get organised. It should be said that the previous day’s fishing had been totally unproductive and had confirmed my assessment that it wasn’t “On” and sometimes I just fish anyway in order to prove it to myself and keep active Bass Fishing wise. Arriving at my spot things felt good (I couldn’t see much as it was nearly dark) I went through my lures and selected hard and soft needles as I have been doing for the whole of last season with the odd hard plastic thrown in to the variation… It didn’t take long to connect and once I’d established how they wanted it (Slow and deep pretty much sums it up) it was Summer Bass business as usual for July in beautiful West Cork – good fish caught and released on a stunning summer’s evening.
