Declan Gibbons reports on good fishing from Lough Corrib, with the cooler weather bringing about a big improvement in angling returns.

In the Cornamona area Tom Doc Sullivan http://www.tomdoc.com reports  good fishing in the area with Liam Horan from Ballintubber enjoying his first trip to Lough Corrib, landing 3 fish for his visit with one lovely fish being over 3lbs. Tom also guided Kevin Hamill from Clones for his first time on Lough Corrib and landed a nice trout of 2.5lbs on a Green Stimulator for an afternoons fishing.

Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge, Glencorrib http://www.corribangling.com  reports a big improvement in catch returns, saying the drop in water temperature has made trout more active. Tom Chamberlain and Richard Wothers from Wales boated 26 fish up to 4lbs on a mixture of dry sedge patterns and wet fly.

Two Italian brothers staying at the lodge and guided by Larry caught 9 trout over two days on Corrib. Father and Son duo Dominic and Eoghan Concannon from Derry had 8 trout for one day with Larry, with fish varying in size from 1.5-2.75lbs . All areas of the Upper Corrib produced good fishing recently on wet and dry sedge patterns.

Staying in the Cornamona area on Thursday last John Somerville enjoyed a good days fishing landing 3 fish with the best fish just under 3lbs, a Silver Dabbler proving to be the best fly on the day. The best sport was had around the islands.

In the Oughterard area Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge (091-552550) reports good fishing with NI angler Jack Kincade landing 6 fish in the deeps for his day’s fishing. Ronan McCarthy from Mullingar had 3 fish for a day’s fishing on dry olives. Walter Kirkwood from County Down had 7 fish in the deeps for his day on Corrib. Ronan Sweeney, Galway had 5 fish on Friday last in the deeps . Best fish recorded at Ardnasillagh for the week was 2.5lbs.

Kevin Molloy (087-9604170) also reports from the Oughterard area on good fishing to be had, both fly fishing and trolling. Kevin guided a French group on Monday and had 3 trout trolling and 1 fly fishin,g and again on Thursday Kevin guided French anglers and landed 3 trout trolling. Kevin guided Frank Doyle from Cork on Saturday and Sunday last with Frank landing 3 fish on both days. A Dublin family also fished out from Molloys on Sunday and landed 3 trout trolling.

On the lower lake Galway angler Harold O’Toole had 6 trout to wets on Friday last with the best fish being 6lbs and 5 on dries another day during the week.

On Sunday last Annaghdown Angling Club hosted the Paddy Cunningham Cup in which 10 anglers participated on the day and 7 fish were returned. Worth noting that 2 sea trout were caught during this competition and returned to the lake.

1st place went to Adrian Lynch with 3 fish.

2nd place went to Kieran Duggan

3rd place went to Anthony Ryan

Heaviest Fish went to Adrian Lynch with a fish of 1.1kgs.
