David McEvoy reports from Delphi Lodge….
28 May: At this stage it finally looks like there is a change in the weather, which will be most welcome for all salmon anglers and indeed farmers and gardeners will be glad to see some rain too. May had been extremely dry up until Saturday the 25th, with only 15mm of rain, which is just slightly more than the record here, which stands at 10mm in February 1986. Since then we had 27mm on Saturday night and Sunday morning and 7mm on Monday morning. There has also been some heavy showers and there is more persistent rain forecast from Wednesday on.

As a result of the prolonged dry spell, the river had fallen to -6. The rain on Saturday night put it up to 20 by Sunday morning and it’s now at 15, which is low enough, but it looks like a flood compared to -6. No fish have been landed since the rain, but we have seen fresh fish running and there was a grilse lost yesterday in the Waterfall. Hopefully the freshening up of the system will bring in some fish and put them in the mood!
