Paul Whelan was out for a cast on the Weir at Fort William on Thursday last week. He caught and released a lovely salmon of about 10lb. All in day’s work! On Friday Martin Lilly, also fishing at Fort William,  had a cracking fish of about 14lbs on the Glenmore Beat.

The Ballyduff Bridge Fishery was in action on Friday too. They had a salmon of around 5lbs caught on the fly at the Bridge Beat. They also saw a nice few fish running through the fishery. The following day they had 2 salmon; one of around 14lbs and another about 8lbs.

The Blackwater Salmon Fishery had a fish on Friday. Lower Kilmurray was the beat that produced the goods.

Paul Whelan was back in the river again on Sunday. He fished the Monastery Stream at Fortwilliam where the Bishops Beat saw another fine fish which was released. Just yesterday morning Fort William had another salmon the Castle beat. This was their first grilse of the season and it was caught by Malcom Green.

Go Fishing…

Blackwater Salmon Fishery

Blackwater Salmon Fishery has 3 beats downstream of the weir and 2 upstream of the weir. Blackwater Salmon Fishery offers fishing on approximately 5 miles of the river Blackwater. The fishing is spread throughout the middle section of the river to offer good sport throughout the fishing season. Due to the location of the beats, fishing can still usually be offered in low or high water.

Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery
Ballyduff Bridge fisheries control a number of beats of the Munster Blackwater. The Ballyduff Bridge beat is almost a mile long offering a huge variety of water and is particularly suited to fly fishing. Upstream near the village of Ballyhooley (a few miles outside the town of Fermoy, Cork) we have two beats. The Ballincurrig Beat is one of the most beautiful locations along the river and has an excellent piece of fly water flowing into a deep pool. Just downstream on the opposite bank we have a short but productive beat, called Magners. This beat fishes also well in high water.
