The grilse have most definitely arrived during the last week although not in any huge numbers – but at least some are being picked up. There is a fresh run of silver fish in the tidal areas and average weights are 2-4 kg so not a bad size. Effort has increased with many more anglers on the riverbank; small flies and lighter gear being the preferred option for them.
There is still very little activity above Mallow due to the challenging conditions. A lot of fish are reported to be just downstream of Fermoy but not moving; this may change with the forecasted rain for the coming midweek period.
Keith Shearing (pictured) had a good day on Fortwilliam Fishery with two nice grilse off the Ellis beat, both fish released safely.

The grilse are also showing up at Blackwater Salmon Fishery with four fish caught on July 10th.

Evening fishing for Trout is still underway with catches, especially from those fisheries downstream of Fermoy described as very good.
