Vincent Appleby reports from Lough Currane…
11/4/19 All the Salmon headlines come from the North Shore and Waterville Boats and at [email protected]. So straight to the trolling department, French angler, Mr. Pierre Loyer from Paris, France and a regular angler to the Waterville Fishery, caught a fine 9 lbs. salmon while trolling with his Gillie. Staying with Waterville boats local Gillie Mr. Eric Jouen and of [email protected] caught a 7 ½ lbs Salmon on the troll and just for the record photos are courtesy of [email protected]. On the fly front it was all quiet on the SW front. Wind SSE fresh and strong at times with reasonable cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather, maximum air temperature 13.4C.
12/4/19 All the headlines come from the West End of Lough Currane and Currane’s Star of the day is the one and only renowned Dutch Angler, Mr. Tim Van Der Laan, who, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught a fine 7 ½ lbs. salmon on the troll and for the rest of the Currane anglers it was all quiet on the SW front, be it Fly or troll. One can say Tim was the Toast of the Lobster this evening. Wind SE fresh to strong with good cloud cover. Yesterday’s weather, maximum air temperature 13.4C.

13/4/19 The Lough Currane was like the wild West or you could say the wild SE and it was virtually impossible to head out but as I say that, one boat did venture out and I can tell you they headed straight for shelter in the Mouth and going by my phone, no fly’s went into the fishes Mouth and the same could be said for The World famous Butler Pool and of www.watervillegolflinks.ie 10 am Wind SE, Speed 33 mph, gusting up to 48 mph plus at 1 pm 37 mph, gusting up to 51 mph plus with rain this evening. Yesterday’s weather maximum air temperature 12.2C.
14/4/19 The Lough Currane Anglers were in cracking form today after yesterday’s wild conditions, you could say the Masters of the fly and troll were at their best. So straight to the action, renowned German fly angler Mr. Bernard Rall while fly fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com caught a fine 10 lbs. salmon on the fly, off the point of Grassy Island. Now to catch of the day and that goes to renowned troll and fly Angler, Mr. Tim Van Der Laan from Holland, while trolling with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught a fine a 10 lbs. salmon in the morning and went in for lunch and had their tea and headed out for the afternoon session and within 5 minutes, off went the rod with a cracker of a 12 lbs. salmon and as they say the Masters had their ration and headed home. Talking of the Masters of angling it was great to see the Master of Golf, the one only Mr. Tiger Woods, win his 15th Major and his 5th Masters and I say congratulations to you on behalf of the good people of Waterville and Kerry. I can tell you Mr. Tiger Woods is no stranger to Waterville Golf and fishing. Wind SE fresh and overcast with light rain at times. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 10.8 mm. Maximum air temperature 11.3C.
15/4/19 Talk of contrasts, yesterday we were praising the good fishing and today it was a complete blow out with storm force winds from the SE and followed by heavy rain and it made a good flood. Just for the record I believe one boat did venture out and in the words of one Currane Angler and I quote, Mad! That sums up today’s manipulations. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 2.0 mm. Maximum air temperature 11.7C.
16/4/19 There was cracking action again today. We start in the fly department. Dutch Angler Mr. Tim Van Der Laan, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Terence Wharton, caught a lightening fresh 9 lbs. salmon. Staying in the fly department, Mr. Rory Sheehan and fishing out of www.butlerarms.com caught a cracker of a 12 lbs. salmon while fly fishing with his Gillie and what makes this fish special it was Rory’s first on the fly and may it be the first of many. Staying with Rory and his Gillie, his Gillie was telling me that yesterday evening Rory caught another fine fish on the troll. Staying in the Salmon department, UK angler Mr. John Chisel caught a fine 9 lbs. Salmon while Fishing with Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com Wind SE light with plenty of sun breaking through. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 24.7 mm, Maximum air temperature 11.7 c.
That is your ration from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts.
