03 January: First outing of the year yesterday and not a bad start with 8 different species on board. The gravel bottom was pretty quiet though produced Whiting, Poor Cod, Cod, Haddock and Dab. The peaks fished well with plenty Pollock and Coalie, a small Ling and a Cod. The fish of the day was a 5lb Pollack.

05 January: A few tough ladies braving the elements yesterday and enjoying some freshly caught pollock for dinner.

07 January: The early start to the season continued on Sunday with the Carrig Inn Bar and Lounge angling club making the journey to Kincasslagh.

8 different species on board again including Pollock, Coalie, Cod, Ling, Whiting, Pouting, Poor Cod and Cuckoo Wrasse. The catch included 2 Pollock of almost 6lb and the heaviest fish of the day, a fine 7.3lb Pollock caught by current species champion Bertie McElhinney. Kelvin Callaghan is the early leader in the 2019 Species Competition with 6 different varieties on Sunday with 5 other anglers sharing 2nd place on 5 species.

It’s all to play for as the 2019 season kicks off.
