Father and son duo Daragh and Gearóid Browne (9) spent the afternoon on Lough Corrib recently; Gearóid was on the dap while dad Daragh fished wet flies in the Galcarrick Island area. Despite tempting a couple of fish to the dapped Royal Wulff Gearoid couldn’t hook one but he was happy to play and land the fish that his dad hooked on a small wet fly! The fish stayed on despite an acrobatic fight and the resulting photograph speaks a thousand words.

Brownie for Gearóid Browne

Apart from the excitement of catching and releasing a cracking wild brown trout like this one, the best part of the day was pulling off the lough for lunch and getting to explore a wild, uninhabited island as only nine year olds know how.

Hopefully this was the first of many Corrib adventures for Gearóid……
