Adrian Duffy, IFI Limerick, reports that trout fishing on Lough Derg looks to be very promising this year. Already anglers are meeting good fish on wet and dry mayfly.

French angler Oliver Berne caught a beautiful trout of around 3lb on the Lake near Luska while fishing with two other French anglers. Adrian met up with these happy customers from Bordeaux who had stories of another Irish angler who had lost a fish of 4lb in the same area.

At Scarriff some great fishing to wets was enjoyed last week but was very weather dependent. Catches went from as many as over 20 to a boat to zero from one day to the next. Eamon Giblin fishing from Anglers Paradise, had 4 fish on a Sooty Olive Dabbler on Wednesday last week but then had nothing until he landed a smashing 4lb trout on a Royal Wulff on Sunday. Other boats in the Bay saw one or 2 fish landed on a mix of wets the same day.

Conditions are much improved since the weekend and better fishing is expected over the bank holiday weekend.
