Michael Flanagan reports from Lough Derravaragh
A few hardy anglers ventured out on Derravaragh recently and fished a pools competition. It was tough going and I only landed one pike for the day. My younger brother J.J. won with a pike 87cm in length. Young Cathal Flanagan also had a few days on Derravaragh and boated a lovely pike on lure.
Barry’s 107cm pike
We have another cracking photograph this week of Barry Darby of Mullingar and a 107cm pike caught on dead bait. Barry is regarded as one of Ireland top predator competition and pleasure anglers, and has rattled the net with huge pike, trout, and perch in recent years.
This 107cm pike was one of three pike boated last Sunday.
FINIAN DARBY MEMORIAL TROPHY
Barry is also a member of Midland Pike Anglers, and on Sunday Febuary 2nd his late dad’s Finian Memorial Competition will be fished. The venue is Lough Derravaragh and I will have full details in the coming weeks, in the mean time if you need information give Joe McDermott of Midland Pike Anglers a bell on 086-8623838.
