Vinny Corrigan from www.lurefishing.ie made it a mission last year to chase big West Coast wrasse and pollack on lure from the shore, and a 10lbs pollack was top of the list. Having had his summer ended by a serious car accident last June, he is making up for lost time, and this week the elusive trophy pollack was his reward.
Lure fishing the Atlantic coastline in winter is not for the faint-hearted, and with the winter storms we have had lately, not advised most of the time. However, a window in the weather with a high pressure system offered calmer conditions on Sunday, and Vinny was on the road before sunrise to a mark in Connemara. The lure of choice was a 7″ Z-Man Jerk Shad on a 1oz jighead. Shortly after sunrise, he hooked into a good fish, which gave a good scrap on the Favorite Cobalt 902MH rod he was using. The fish proved to be a PB for Vinny – at 76cm and with a fat belly he estimated the weight at 10-12lbs. What a catch!
It’s only January, so we look forward to seeing what the rest of 2020 brings for Vinny.
