Kevin O’Boyle reports from the River Moy…
The relaxing of Covid-19 travel restrictions from 10th May permitting inter-county travel stimulated increased angling on the River Moy. The Ridge Pool recorded its first salmon of the 2021 season on Sunday 16th May caught by John Howley. Also on the Ridge Pool, Garrett Ruigrok caught and released another fine springer on May 17th.
Ballina Salmon Anglers reported 8 salmon caught for the week, the best of which weighed 15 lbs.
Gannon’s Fishery reported 5 salmon for the week. The heaviest fish weighed 12.2 lbs. and was caught by Davy McKee on the prawn.
Foxford Fishery reported 9 salmon, the best of which weighed 12 lbs., also caught on the prawn.
Foxford Salmon Anglers also reported 9 salmon caught for the week.
East Mayo Anglers reported 12 salmon for the week. Rebecca Commons (13 years old) from Kiltimagh had a 10 lbs. salmon spinning while Billy McGhee, Ballyvary, landed two salmon on the fly, the best of which weighed 8.5 lbs. Both salmon were released.
Moy Estuary
Some more sea trout are also reported from the Moy Estuary. Dubliner Peter Cramer and friends enjoyed great fishing with Judd Ruane www.fishingireland.ie including a bbq on Bartra Island. The lads had a great day on “Pegasus” with Peter’s son Callum winning the money with a great fish of 2 lbs.
