The Carrigaholt boats are certainly having a good season, with plenty of species coming aboard, including specimen fish of several species so far. Mackerel have been plentiful, with a lot of big fish through them, great for bait!
Luke Aston had Andy and James out for the first sixgill shark hunt of the year. Although they did hook one, it was on lighter gear aimed at skate and they were unable to get it to the boat. They did enjoy some great sport, however. Bull huss to over specimen size came aboard.
There was a nice mix of fish caught, including some good conger, and Andy even had a rare catch for an angling boat – a megrim.
Luke also reported good mixed species on the coast north of Loop Head, with plenty of whitefish hunting the mackerel shoals.
Fellow skipper Sean Maguire, of the Lady Gwen, also reported great fishing for his guests. Mackerel are easy to find and are really attracing the predators at the moment, even cod putting in an appearance.
Another group were focussed on light rod tactics, and enjoyed great sport targeting pollack.
