It has been a mixed week for Mick Flanagan of Midland Angling & Shooting. Mick has tackled Lough Owel and Lough Lene this week, with fish taken on both the fly and on the troll.
Early in the week, on Lough Lene, boat-mate Marty landed a lovely fish on the dries during the day just as the lake surface turned to glass. In the evening, Mick managed a nice fish of 3lbs+, but Marty lost something much bigger that took his dry fly like a steam train in shallow water. There wasn’t a huge amount of fly on the water, but the lads made the most of the chances that they got.
Over to Owel, where Mick met plenty of perch and trout on the troll during the day in mid week, but night fishing was slow with very little fly life to get the fish moving. Mick went back later in the week to strip wets over the areas he met fish on the troll and had immediate success on the dabblers.
