Rain brings some good fishing for South West Fisheries

River Lee

The rain seems to have got things moving on some of the rivers in the southwest of the country last week. 40 salmon were recorded from the River Lee to anglers using various methods. On the River Ilen, 30 salmon were landed and on the Bandon 35 salmon were caught, with the best being a fish of 10lbs on a flying c. The Comholla reported 8 salmon and the Mealagh had 6 salmon reported.

The river Blackwater had a slight improvement in catches, but not enough to match expected returns for this time of year as the river still runs high and coloured. Similar dirty water affected the Bride where there was no report of fish and the Kenmare/Waterville systems reported patchy fishing despite having good water.
