Late mayfly and olive hatches recently improved the fishing on the lakes. However, fish only seem to be active and free-rising during said hatches.

Kelly’s Boat Hire reported on angling activity from their base. Tom Waldron boated 13 trout, with 6 of them being a good size last Thursday, fishing from Cloghan’s Bay.

Peter Roche went out on Thursday, fishing around Brackwansha. He had 6 fish to wet mayfly patterns and the green peter. The best fish weighed 1lb.

On Friday Peter and Padraig O’Súileabháin from Dublin fished Chain Island, Abbey shore and Brackwansha. The two anglers caught more than 30 trout between the two of them, with a few good measuring fish. The most successful patterns were wet mayflies.

Eamonn Kelly and Michael Rutledge took two visitors from Dublin out on Conn on Saturday, fishing mostly around Brackwansha. All of them caught several fish and a few nice ones up to 18 inches as well.
