Skipper Luke Aston reports that shark fishing has picked up, with porbeagle and blue sharks being caught off Loop Head. One day they had two porgies to 168cm, and 3 small blues under 30lbs. There seem to be lots of small blue shark about. Maybe too small to take the bigger baits. Still a few fine Spurdogs from the bottom. Most of the shark where released at the side.
The estuary is also providing excellent tope fishing at the moment. Luke’s crew had a busy day inshore – with plenty of fresh mackerel it was non-stop action either side of low water, with multiple hookups. I’m sure the pints tasted nice that evening!
