Skipper Luke Aston is known for getting big fish for his clients, with six gill shark a speciality of his. These monsters can go well over a thousand pounds and are a huge test of both an angler’s skill, strength and endurance.
Regular client Andy was on a two-day mission to land his 5th sixgill, with plenty of days over the last 4 years dedicated to the hunt. A long day proved fruitless, with just a few small fish to keep them occupied.
Just as they were about to reel in and head for home, however, Andy’s rod bent, the telltale sign of a sixgill, and the battle was on.
It’s a testament to Andy’s and Luke’s skill that only 35 minutes later a fish estimated at 900lbs was on the surface.
Well done Andy and Luke on a great capture!
Earlier in the week another group had tried drifting for shark, but while the sizxgills proved elusive, they were happy enough with their catch on the day.
