This report from the organisers of the Lough Derg Perch Bonanza:

The Lough Derg Perch Bonanza 2024 took place on Sunday 11th August. The event was postponed due to high winds on August Bank Holiday weekend, unfortunately some teams couldn’t fish the new date so number of teams was reduced, but we are happy to have the first team event for perch from the boat!

Check-in of the teams went smoothly at 9am. Once the starting time came, all teams scattered across the lake trying to find countable Perch, the longer the better as only the 5 longest perch would count at the end!

The perch did exactly what they know best, acting finicky and moving around a lot, which made it difficult to catch them, but still a good number of fish were caught and released safely, for others can enjoy this sport.

Thanks to FishDonkey app (used in competitions mostly in US and across the world) we managed to get the results in real time and at the end to be able to see the best anglers in the competition.

At 5pm the app was closed for everyone and results were double checked, we could congratulate the winners on the leaderboard!

  • First Place – Team Perch (178cm 5 longest perch)
  • Second Place – Snipe&Troll (169cm 5 longest perch)
  • Third Place – Team Strike (168cm 5 longest perch)
  • Pheasant Flies sponsored prize went to 4th team on the leaderboard – Team Sukre (164cm 5 longest perch)
  • Longest Perch – Team Perch @ 37cm

Big THANK YOU to everyone who took part on first edition, congratulations to top 4 and longest Perch! Good angling skills!!

Now back to reality and getting ready for Perch Master Ireland 2024(league) next Sunday and Lough Ree Predator Challenge first day of September

Special thanks to Pheasant Flies for the prize.

Big thanks to Inland Fisheries Ireland/Fishing in Ireland for continuous support.
