Tougher conditions on the Moy due to heavy rain and rising water levels

River Moy Angling Report week ending 1st Sept 2024

River Moy

Water levels remained high and angling effort was lower as a result. Heavy rain leading up to Tuesday 27th August saw water levels at Ballylahan bridge rise quickly to almost 2.2 m gradually receding to 0.76 m by Sunday evening 1st September, following on from dry and sunny conditions on Friday and the weekend. Overall, the total reported catch for the week was 61 salmon.

Moy Fishery

Water levels remained high in Moy Fishery waters for the week and as a result very little angling took place. No salmon were caught but fish were seen moving through the Ridge Pool.

Ballina Salmon Anglers.

Peter McHugh of Ballina Salmon Anglers reported a total catch of 25 fish for this week. Weights averaged 2-5 lbs with the heaviest weighing 10.5 lbs which was caught on the worm on Sunday. Three of the 25 fish were caught on the worm with the rest being caught using spinners.

Mount Falcon Estate

Mount Falcon reported 5 salmon caught for the week. All fish were caught on the worm and the average weight was 4.5 lbs.

Knockmore Salmon Anglers

Four fish were reported caught this week for Knockmore Salmon Anglers waters. All were caught on the worm and weights ranged from 4 to 6.5 lbs.

Attymass Angling Club

No fish were reported caught this week in Attymass waters.

Coolcronan Fishery

Coolcronan Fishery reported 2 fish caught for the week, both caught using the spinner. One fish weighed 3 lbs with the other weighing 4.75 lbs.

Byrnes Fishery

Byrnes Fishery reported that no angling took place this week.

Gannon’s Fishery

This week Pat reported that 4 salmon were caught on Gannon’s fishery. Three fish were caught on the worm and were kept with one being caught using a spinner which was released safely back to the river. Average weights were reported to be 5.5 lbs.

The Foxford Fishery

Granville reported a catch of 1 salmon this week. The 3 lbs fish was caught on the spinner and was subsequently released back to the Moy.

Foxford Salmon Anglers

Harry Feeney reported 12 salmon caught this week and most fish were caught at the weekend as water levels finally started to slowly drop. Worm and prawn were the methods that were working best.

Cloongee Fishery

No fish were reported caught on Cloongee Fishery this week.

East Mayo Anglers Association

East Mayo Anglers reported a catch of 8 salmon for the week. Four of these fish were taken with the same number being released. Of the 8 fish caught 5 were caught using a spinner and the remainder were caught on the fly. The average weight was 4.5 lbs with the heaviest weighing in at 7 lbs.

Moy Estuary

Judd Ruane reports that it has been another difficult week on the Moy Estuary with adverse weather conditions causing many bookings to be cancelled or postponed.
