David Norman reports from West Cork…

Can’t tell you how good it felt to FINALLY get afloat last week. It’s hard to believe but my last guided trip was 30th July so up until this one no trips done in the whole of August due to the unsettled weather. The normally reliable forecasting has just been adding to the pain of inactivity. I normally call my trips 3 Days out on a good forecast but I’ve had to reduce that to 2 Days due to the changeability we’ve been getting, I’ve seen forecasts for 5 days of ideal weather reduce to 3 then evaporate all together… I’d call it the night before if I could at the moment but it’s not fair on the paying guests and it doesn’t leave enough time to get the all-important pre trip video call done. I’ve been watching the weather so closely I’ve discovered new features in the forecast I’ve been using for the past 30 years, so I suppose it’s not all bad.

So against that backdrop I was delighted to see the most perfect weather forecast I’d seen all month and give the green light to Darren Cousins ( Who I met whilst giving a lure and fly fishing demo at the Irish Spring Angling Fair ) for him to travel up from Wexford for Day 1 of the 2 Days he’d booked with me. By the time we went afloat of course the SE breeze was pushing up 2-3 ft of local swell so on the limit and just over it at times, definitely not the 0-1ft we were forecasted but thankfully Darren is a well equipped and experienced shore and kayak angler so he wasn’t fazed by it in the slightest which made my life a lot easier. We seemed to get off to a flyer at spot A with the first fish being a PB Pollock for Darren but it was just too uncomfortable to stick around there so we moved off in search of some shelter from the elements which we found to a point spot B … Again, we got an instant response to Pirate Lures Corsair Bait Fish lures in Pink & Black.

I’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to everybody who’s been patiently waiting to get their trips with me done and often having them rolled over multiple times. I really do appreciate it and we will get out there for the best fishing I can possibly find for you all and make some memories together when the conditions are right.

Go fishing…
