Peter is back with a weekly round up from Piscari-Fly…

How’s The Fishing?

Piscari-fly training this years Irish Youth Team heading to Czech Republic. We had a fabulous day on the Avonmore River with a great team of young lads on Saturday.

We started in the club rooms where we had a presentation for the youths on fishing world championships and how to prepare for them. Following this then we moved to the river where we set up some beats for the youths and they got to fish 2 1 hour sessions with a controller to help them gain valuable experience in what its like to be in a championship setting.

Following on from a review session at the end, everyone headed home very happy. Peter will be travelling with the youth team in August. Wishing them all the very best of luck in the World Championships in August.

Fishing was very good on the day, river was in perfect condition, plenty of free rising trout with lots of hatches diring the day. Big thanks to Rathdrum Trout Anglers for their fantastic water, which is a replica of the Famous Devil Stones, one of their main sectors in the Czech Republic.

The All-Ireland Rivers were meant to be held this weekend but looks like it will definitely be cancelled following a fish kill in Munster.

“Thousands of fish and eels have been wiped out on a pivotal Munster fishery following a suspected chemical spill from a state-owned water treatment plant. Investigations into the kill are underway with several state bodies involved. It is feared that at least 5,000 fish, including salmon, trout, and lamprey were killed along a 4km stretch of the Allow, in north Cork, an important tributary of the Blackwater.” Irish Examiner 10/6/24
