The Newbridge & District Pike Anglers had to wait a while to get going in 2025, as their scheduled January outing had to be postponed due to clashes with other events. As a result, the 28 members who turned out were raring to go, and it was a nice mix of old hands and new members looking to get the year off to a good start.
The weather was looking promising at the start of the competition, but at around 11 o’clock, a wave of heavy rain came through, coupled with strong winds, which threatened to put a dampener on things. Luckily, the pike were in a taking mood, with 145 fish being netted, which meant that many anglers were too busy catching fish to care too much about the weather. Some decent fish were landed, including four doubles, the best of which was a 19.13 fish caught by Stephen Hunter. That fish helped him to the overall prize on the day.
