On March 11th Blackwater Valley Fishery reported that after a long spell of high water the river had settled down and all their fishing beats were finally in good order. The water clarity and levels were good and conditions were right. All that was needed was a few fish as they got about testing skagit and floating lines with new their new rods for the season on the Ballygarret beat.
The improved conditions continued through the week and today we heard news from Blackwater Trout and Salmon Fishery that they just landed their first salmon of the season. The indominable Connie Corcoran was the lucky angler. The fish came in at 13lbs bang on according to the weigh net. Jason tells us the river is in fantastic condition; water level 0.58m on the gauge and a temperature of 9°C.
