Moy Fishery re-opens with steady fishing throughout the system

Moy Catchment Angling Report – Week ending 29-06-2025

Water levels at Ballylahan fluctuated slightly this week from 0.23 m on Sun 22nd, rising to 0.36 m briefly on Sat 28th before settling back to 0.29 m by noon on Sunday 29th. Rainfall amounts are close to or slightly above normal for the week in the west. Over the coming week, the weather is forecast to be mixed with spells of rain and accumulations are expected to be between 30 mm and 45mm in the catchment.

Moy Fishery
The Moy Fishery reopened on Friday 27th June after being closed due to elevated water temperatures. A total of nineteen salmon were caught on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with sixteen of them coming off the Ridge Pool, of which eleven were released.  Three were caught on the Weir Pool, of which two were released. Most fish ranged in weight from 2.5 lbs to 6 lbs.

Ballina Salmon Anglers
Peter reports nine grilse all caught on the worm, weighing from 3 lbs to 5 lbs, and one spring salmon weighing 8 lbs on the spinner.

Mount Falcon Estate
Mike reports of two salmon caught for the week with one of them released.

Knockmore Salmon Anglers
Kenneth reports of six salmon caught weighing 3 lbs up to 5 lbs, mostly on the prawn. 

Attymass Angling Club
Kevin reports of six salmon caught for the week, four on the worm and two on the prawn weighing from 3 lbs up to 7 lbs.

Coolcronan Fishery
Nick reports of three salmon caught on the worm and spinning for the week.

Byrnes Fishery
Roy reports of four salmon all caught on the prawn with the best weighing 6 lbs.

Armstrong Fishery
George reports of seven salmon all caught on the shrimp with the weights ranging from 3 lbs to 5 lbs.

Gannon’s Fishery
Pat reports in with nine salmon being caught using all permitted methods, two of which were returned to the river. 

The Foxford Fishery
Granville reports of nine salmon caught, one of which was released using mainly the bubble and fly with the best weighing in at 9 lbs.

Foxford Salmon Anglers
Harry reports of twenty-eight salmon caught of which five were released. Seventeen came off Rinnaney.

Foxford Town
Reports of six salmon caught for the week in the town stretch and reports of a lot of fresh fish and a good run of grilse at the moment.

Cloongee Fishery
Anglers are reminded that they must make a “Catch/No Catch” return on the blue duplicate of their permit and place in the catch return boxes located in the two car parks. Catch/No Catch returns can also be made by email to moyfishery@fisheriesireland.ie

East Mayo Anglers Association
Kathleen reports of sixteen salmon being caught using all permitted methods of which six were released. All weighed in between 3 lbs and 5 lbs.

East Mayo Anglers Association will be holding a Youth Angling Event on Saturday 26th July at the Disabled Anglers Facility. Details are set out in the poster below.

The Moy Estuary
Judd reports from the Moy Estuary of a disruptive week with strong winds and cancelled days.

Robert, Richard and Morgan Babington landed seven sea trout for the week with the best weighing 2 lbs.
