Jim Murray from the National Mullet Club is back again to share the news about their Irish Mullet of the Year…

This fish turned up during the annual NMC Irish meetup which is fast becoming one of the main events in Irish mullet fishing in my opinion.

It had been a reasonably successful day with 2 smaller fish landed and another couple which came off; just as I was about to reel in and make tracks to meet the other members in the local I remembered a piece of advice I’d overheard earlier. Namely that some decent fish can be taken in the margins;  I’d been fishing at range all day so decided to plonk one rod in close at about 15 yards for the last cast of the day.

Well I can only say that advice was truly excellent as within a few minutes a rattle developed into a decent pull and this 7lb 3oz thicklip was the result, expertly netted by NMC members Mark & Cliff (visiting from the UK) who also obliged with the camera.
