West Cork and District SAC fished their latest fixture at Bantry Airstrip on Sunday…
Bantry Airstrip was the venue for yesterday’s competition. Known for producing quality fish, the Airstrip didn’t disappoint, offering up some nice catches throughout the match.
The lower-numbered pegs had the best of the fishing during the first hour, with most anglers picking up dogfish early on. As the second hour progressed, the fishing slowed down for many, but Dave Keating managed to find a couple of quality Ray and a Bullhuss, pushing him to the front of the pack.

Meanwhile, the higher-numbered pegs started slow during the first couple of hours. However, things turned around in the third and fourth hours, with a burst of action from Dave Kennedy and Martin O’Hare bringing them back into contention.
With very little separating the top three anglers going into the final hour, it was anyone’s match. In the end, a late flurry of fish gave Stephen O’Donovan the edge to take the win. Dave Keating secured second place and took both Big Fish pools with a nice 64cm Thornback Ray and a 73cm Bullhuss, well done Dave. Dave Kennedy narrowly beat Martin O’Hare to claim third place.

Species caught on the day consisted of mostly Dogfish, Thornback Ray, Bullhuss, Gurnards, Pollock and Flounder.
Go fishing…
Next up is Caliso Bay in late August, this venue always throws up some surprise fish and some other surprises for angler’s that have not fished this venue before.
All the information for this competition will be posted on our Facebook page.
