Keith McDonnell of Impact Fishing headed to Lough Corrib last weekend following an invitation from guide Jasper Mathews to fish the opening day.

From the outset it was streamers only. Despite the forecast the there was only a gentle breeze but it was still chilly and the water temperature was hovering below 5°C.

But the diligent anglers under the watchful gaze and expert direction of Kali soon found success. The first fish of the trip fell to Jasper and it wasn’t long ’til Keith also had a tug though his fish twisted off soon after.

A very welcome trout

They fished on til lunch with the cold adding to their hunger. Physically and mentally fortified the trio headed out again with a change of flies and some faster sinking lines and ended the day with another fish. A great result of a cold, slow day.
