Rainfall amounts for the last week were variable across the country. It was wetter than normal in Connacht but drier than average elsewhere. Conditions will be largely settled and mostly dry over the next couple of days, apart from a few scattered showers. However, there may be a little more in the way of precipitation later in the week and onwards.

Water levels at Ballylahan continue to drop, albeit slowly, from 0.63 m on Sunday 26th April down to 0.56 m on Sunday 3rd May.

Overall, angling activity on the Moy was low for the week.

Β Roy reports of one salmon weighing 9 lbs caught on the prawn.

Foxford Fishery

Β Granville reports of one salmon caught for the week.

Foxford Salmon Anglers

Harry Reports of three salmon caught and released with the best being a springer of 13 lbs.

Cloongee Fishery

One salmon was reported caught and released off the bubble and fly, weighing 12 lbs.

East Mayo Anglers Association

Β Kathleen reports of two salmon caught for the week, one of which was released by Martin McKenny, County Louth, a 10 lbs springer.

Pontoon Bridge

One salmon was reported caught and subsequently released at Pontoon Bridge on 1st May.

Β Moy Estuary

Skipper Judd Ruane reports from Pegasus of a lively week fishing on the Moy Estuary. His boat saw a good return of sea trout landed with visiting anglers from Dublin, Clogher Valley and the USA all catching fish.

IFI encourages all anglers to be vigilant while angling for salmon and sea trout to return all kelts, unseasonable salmon and sea trout and remind all anglers of the legal requirements to return such fish.

Only 1 salmon or sea trout measuring >40 cm may be retained from the period 3rd April to 1st June 2026 in line with the Conservation of Salmon and Sea trout (Bag Limits) Bye-Law no. 1023,2026.
