T he South Shore SAC fished the Tommy Keogh Open, the third leg of the highly competitive 2026 Leinster League, on a stunning sunny evening at Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow over the weekend. The event was once again generously sponsored by the Keogh family in memory of the great Irish and Leinster angler Tommy Keogh, who continues to be remembered with admiration by the match angling community.
As ever at Kilcoole, the draw was expected to play a major role, with high numbers generally favoured. When Alan Mulcahy drew end peg 46, followed by Max Roche on 45, both were immediately marked as strong contenders. Other anglers in form included the Fogarty family, James and Phillip Kennedy Ryan, Eric Gasparro and TC Keogh. Fishing began at 7pm, and early catches included dogfish, gurnards and flats.
In Zone A, Gavin Fogarty started strongly, while Ciaran Fogarty also found early fish. In Zone B, Max Roche, Alan Mulcahy and Conor Clancy all caught steadily, with Fintan Kavanagh also landing a tidy plaice. As the tide turned, fish briefly came back on the feed, but the hoped-for big bags did not fully materialise.
In Zone A, Ciaran Fogarty finished strongly, adding dogfish and a fine 55cm spotted ray to win the zone. Eric Gasparro produced a late charge to take second ahead of Gavin Fogarty. In Zone B, Conor Clancy’s consistent fishing saw him win both the zone and the match overall.
In the juniors, Phillip Kennedy Ryan continued his excellent form, winning ahead of Sean Keane and Ronan O’Brien.
