Mackerel were scarce this week, so Sean Maguire’s crew on the Isle of Aran out of Carrigholt used the plentiful coalfish for bait instead, and found spurdogs eager to feed. ground fishing was also very poroductive for pollack. Hopefully the mackerel will return soon, but it certainly doesn’t seem to have affected the fishing.

On the Clare Dragoon, Luke Aston says his clients were enjoying the change in the weather over the weekend. They were finally able to go offshore, and found lively fishing on lovely drifts over the offshore reefs. Mackerel were scarce, but there were large numbers of small coalies and plenty of pollack, giving lots of action, bent rods, tired arms and happy anglers…
Go fishing…
