7/10/2022 No reports of any rod benders at this present time, so we head for the weather, wind WNW fresh, average speed 20 mph, gusts up to 30 mph followed by reasonable cloud cover.
8/10/2022 The Currane drifters were all quiet this day, but I can say with out any fear of contradiction there was a great discussion/comments on Inland Fisheries Ireland Facebook page   well worth reading and have your say. Wind SW veered SSW light to fresh with reasonable cloud cover.
9/10/2022 Made a good flood today as the rain lashed down and followed by a strong and variable wind from SW, speed was 30 mph with gusts up to 41 mph, eventually wind veered NNW light to fresh. Just for the record I didn’t get any reports from the lake and in my opinion, you could forget it right up to lunchtime.
10/10/2022 Update on the last two day’s and for good reason, I poached it off What’s on Waterville Facebook page so a big thanks to What’s on in Waterville and to Currane Angler Mr. Brian O’Rorke so take it away Brian, “Went home this morning, disappointed with yesterday, but had a fairly good day on Friday with 2 nice sea trout on a private lake on the upper Currane lakes’ system!! Good bye Lough Currane till next summer thanx to Lakelands guest house, The Lobster Bar and The Villa Maria, The Shy Man and Frank Donnelly and our private lake owner S.H!! We’ll meet again…  !”.
Now back today. Have no reports on today’s manipulations as of yet, but with any luck we might have an update? Amount of rainfall yesterday was 25.8 mm. Today’s wind was from the North and light and veered NNW later during the day.
11/10/20 Currane anglers were all quiet this day. Wind SSW light to fresh and overcast. Now we head for A Currane anglers view of one of his best series of trips in 30 years! Take it away Brian It’s all yours.
I’ve been coming to Waterville for 30 odd years,
To remember detail of trips – I have fears!
It’s tough for me, and my peers at our age!
It’s Lough Currane’s fish, we’d come and try to engage!
For me this year’s experience, has been one of the best!
But only really when, the wind was in the west!
A Skelligs trip was planned for May as a test,
The storm so bad that we gave it a rest!!
The lake was so rough, we shoulda given drifting a miss,
From sheltered shore I gave, 2 brown trout a kiss!
On the pan they went for breakfast next morn,
In butter they fried and eaten with corn!!
In June we arrived back, in the hope of salmon to tote,
The Shy Man put up a Hairy Mary, and a Silver Stoat!
The latter hooked two – three n four pound sea trout,
The former took a nice grilse, from the Commeragh spout!!
Next trip in September just two of us came,
An upper Currane lake we fished with The Shy Man, again,
Another salmon I caught, on a Muddler at last,
My partner hooked one, but broke his hook, on the same cast!!!
The last hoorah was mixed, as the fish were so dark,
But that upper lake, again, gave me a morning’s lark!!
The Shy Man on the oars, was my main man,
We released two sea trout that woulda, been fit for the pan!!
So many thanx again to the inimitable Shy Man, no doubt!
To Tommy Shea and Frank Donnelly for taking me out!

To The Lobster Bar and The Villa Marie, for their dining arrays!!!

12/10/2022 There were five boats out manipulating their skills on this the last day of the 2022 Season and by all accounts their lines were slack so on that note we head for some news from the IFI, on behalf of all the angling community and all of Ireland we would like to wish Dr. Paddy Gargan who has now retired from Inland Fisheries Ireland, a very happy retirement and tightlines. Dr. Paddy Gargan as well as being a renowned scientist he’s also a renowned Game angler in his own weight. In 1987, Paddy caught a lovely specimen salmon of 22lb from the Galway Weir on the shrimp fly. Later that same year he landed a specimen Sea Trout of 8lb 9oz on a wet fly on the famous Connemara Lough Glenicmurrin which is part of the Costello system. All I can say is Dr. Paddy Gargan is that your retirement is a great loss to the Irish fishing community. Happy retirement from all anglers from all over the World especially from the Waterville Fishery.
As I have being saying for the last twenty years it’s that time of year again and yes you have it, first of all I would like to say a big thank you, to you the readers of the Blog and especially Mr. Myles Kelly and all the team in the Inland Fishery Ireland for their great support as always, this season. Also, a big thank you to Mr. Paul Burke of the Trout and Salmon, who has the hard work of editing my reports every month, all I can say is Paul has the patience of a Saint. So on that note I can’t wait for the 2023 Season, Happy Christmas to you all and stay safe and I’m looking forward to January 17th 2023 and writing On The No Spin No Fly’s just Facts Zone.

A new online survey has been developed by IFI for the Currane catchment to gather anglers’ knowledge – the survey method called FLEKSI was developed by IFI to help give an insight into the status of the fishery. Currane Anglers are needed for Citizen Science survey to examine fish stocks
