Cork Harbour bass guide Richie Ryan was in touch with a great report on fishing this week…

The famous Fly Fishing enthusiast Dr Jacques Bronkhorst yet again had visitors from South Africa this week. Trevor Travis and his son Matthew Carmichael fished for a full week with Jacques and had excellent fishing as can be seen from the photographs. Large numbers of small Bass were landed on both boats over the period. The pair  loved the very underrated Pollack on the Fly here in Ireland. My famous Carlow expression “dunkies” ( sic )  of Pollack was used repeatedly during the sessions.

Trevor and Matthew Carmichael joined me also for a day’s guided fishing. Matthew was guiding in Alaska last year and now guides near the Seychelles. His expertise was evident from the outset. Trevor , an expert angler,  obviously tutored his son on the finer points of fly fishing, great to see the passion being passed on. Whilst  fishing  for Bass on the Fly, Matthew hooked a huge thick lipped Mullet which was definitely close or above specimen size , see photo below. To see the rod bent over and the adept control of the rod as this monstrous mullet dived for the bottom was a sight to behold !

It was indeed a great pleasure to have father and son  aboard Sea Hawk for a very entertaining and enjoyable days fishing. They have promised to return again to Ireland for our excellent saltwater fly fishing.
