Dutch anglers Lars, Hans, Ton, Marcel and Allard had some top class fishing last week while fishing off the east coast with Wicklow Boat Charters. After just a few days, the group had clocked up 19 species from the Wicklow Bay area, even with the dreaded north easterly winds.

Marcel with one of the black bream

On the species hunt there were some notable catches that included black bream, rockcook wrasse, dragonet, conger and scad. The red bream and red mullet didn’t show, and a few other regulars ones, like tub gurnard, dab, ray and weaver, managed to not make their usual appearances at all!

When the tactics switched to tope, twenty were boated in one session – mainly pack tope between 20 and 35lb. There were also a few bull huss, but but not as many as expected, and plenty of hounds.

Ton with one of his many tope

A great few days were had, great company, coffee, snacks and a wee dram.
