MOONEY TOP ROD ON WHITELAKE
Another week has drifted past in the Angling World and we have another net bursting angling report this week. Whitelake anglers were in action and Paul Mooney of Castlepollard won the Joe Farrellelly Memorial Cup. Also in North Westmeath Glore Anglers are catching some lovely pike and perch. On the Trout scene I was on Ree and Sheelin for a few days and Ree produced some super trout for Marty Smith.ITFFA pro Joe Keena kindly sent us results from the recent International Fly Fishing Championships on Owel, and we included a few local faces caught on camera. No dough about it we anglers are a colorful bunch.
WHITELAKE ANGLERS. Well done to Castlepollard Angler Paul Mooney on winning the Joe Farrelly Memorial Cup on the Whitelake.Paul had a cracking fish of 4lbs 7oz to take top rod.

Ray Loughlin of Trim was 2nd with another fine trout of 3lbs 15oz and 3rd was Joe Foley also of Trim. Junior anglers had a great day and Xena Fagan boated a fine trout of 2lbs 15oz to take top prize in the junior section.

Reese McCabe was 2nd and Oisin McCabe 3rd. The Farrelly family would like to thank all anglers who competed on the day and Whitelake secretary Noel McCabe for organizing the competition.
REE TROUT. The May fly season is wining down big time, and some cracking fish are being caught on the spent. I was on Lough Ree last week for a few days with Marty Smith and we boated some beautiful wild brown trout. Sheelin is also producing some nice fish as darkness falls, and both lakes are worth checking out this week.

Ireland finished 2nd in the recent International fly Fishing Championships on Owel.England took first place with 59 trout for 75lbs .The Brown Bowl for top International rod went to Phil Longstaff of England, and top Irish rod was Robery Reilly. Westmeath Anglers Brendan Murray, Paddy Ward, Johnny Murray, and Andy Duncan all fished for Ireland. The Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association would like to congratulate Team England on their win, and we extend our thanks to Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association and Inland Fisheries Ireland who made this competition a great success.
