“TONY Hogg from East Antrim has been named the 2012 ‘Ulster Boat Champion’ thanks to a tough day of fishing on Lough Melvin. Cool and bright conditions made for hard fishing in search of the renowned sonaghan trout as over 40 of the nation’s top anglers battled for an advantage. In the end, the championship was won with just two fish – in fact, one proved enough to place some anglers in the Ulster team for September’s Inter-Provincial Championships. Lurgan’s Keith Moffit qualified for Ulster – plus home knowledge helped Garrison-based Joe Gilroy and James Docherty also make the squad.
