Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery
Ballyduff Bridge fisheries control a number of beats of the Munster Blackwater. The Ballyduff Bridge beat is almost a mile long offering a huge variety of water and is particularly suited to fly fishing. Upstream near the village of Ballyhooley (a few miles outside the town of Fermoy, Cork) we have two beats. The Ballincurrig Beat is one of the most beautiful locations along the river and has an excellent piece of fly water flowing into a deep pool. Just downstream on the opposite bank we have a short but productive beat, called Magners. This beat fishes also well in high water.
Fortwilliam Fishery is 3 miles from tidal water and has 5 beats on the river, which include stretches particularly suited to fly fishing. Offering a total of 3.5 miles of double bank fishing, our beats provide a wide variety of water, suitable for both beginners and the more experienced fishermen. All beats are interlinked and enjoy vehicular access and huts.

Billy Downes reports that as of Wednesday 13th July water at 1.4m at the Laune Bridge which is beautiful water for all methods. Salmon are being seen running the river and members are meeting fish. Some even managing to land one or two.
11.5lb salmon from the Laune for Danny Joy
Danny Joy enJOYed good fishing on Monday evening. He met and played two fish well into double figures. He lost one and landed one of 11.5 lbs. Danny met another fish on Tuesday.
Matt Standen managed to land a fish on the fly at last after meeting a good few over the last few weeks but lost them at the net. Today’s fish was 5 lbs.
Danny Joy’s salmon fly – the hook was pulled out of shape by the fish he lost.
There were salmon and grilse see running the river each day especially over days when nets are off. There is a distinct pattern to the year now. On Saturday, Sunday and Mondays there is a much greater chance of seeing a fish or meeting a fish – no commercial nets.
Prospects: Judging by fish seen running the river there has to be a good chance on all methods in this beautiful water for the rest of the week.
Permits for Laune Anglers waters from now to 31st July cost only €25 excellent value compared to other fisheries and the chances of a fish.
Beat 3:The Beat is producing a few fish each week. The Brown trout fishing continues good. Please note that the €10 trout permit allows an angler to fish for brown trout ‘fly only’ If you want to spin or worm fish you need to purchase a €25 permit.

The River Ilen is a medium size spate river that fishes best on a dropping flood for both salmon and sea trout. Spinning, worm and fly fishing are the methods used and allowed on club water.
The river is beautiful and a joy to fish, pools along club waters are easily accessible with seats, steps and stiles put in place for the anglers comfort. With selective tree pruning done along the river in recent years fly fishing has become a more available option especially on the lower river with numerous pools opened up to suit fly fishermen, night time fly fishing for sea trout is a pleasure with great stocks of trout entering the river from April.
Eileen Carroll from the Macroom office reports that for the for the week ending 09 July, 25 salmon were caught on the RiverLee mostly landed at the Kingsley Weir. Best salmon caught was 14lb fish, by a club member. Best methods are fly and prawn.

Eileen Carroll in our Macroom office reports that on the Bandon there were about 30 salmon reported for the week, mostly on the lower river. There was a small flood at the weekend resulting in good numbers of fish running the river and there are fish being caught all along the river as a result. The river remains in excellent order for fishing for the week ahead.
A lovely fresh salmon from the Bandon last week about to be released.
What a few days fishing it has been on the Bandon! Good numbers of salmon were caught last week on shrimp and worm, again mostly grilse. On Saturday, we had a rise in river levels and this spurred on a big run of fish which provided a great spectacle at Bandon weir. Sunday saw many fish being caught on spinner and yesterday heralded the best day of fishing this year so far.
Anglers enjoyed hooking, losing and landing many salmon yesterday as a great run of fresh fish entered the river. Most of these were grilse but a few better sized salmon were also encountered. Fly fishing was by far the most successful method as the water cleared. The best I heard of landed was in the high teens of pounds and another fish in the 20lb class was also lost. The small flood has now all but subsided, although there is still a nice tinge of colour. Prospects for the week ahead are excellent.

Michael Flanagan from Midland Angling reports on the pike fishing in the Midlands area…
Alan Thomson had some lively pike last Sunday while doing a bit of trolling across the Midlands. On the day we were trying out some new Savage Gear lures I had picked up from a friend in Dublin. The 3D Trout are very realistic, and on the day our three colors worked which were rainbow trout, Perch, and Firetiger, which worked the best. We only had small pike, but they were very lively and hit our lure some slap as we trolled over weed beds.
