Photo: Mark Corps prepares to release a nice fresh run salmon on the Suir

08/09 Mark Corps fished at Kilsheelin from Monday to Thursday with friends and family. Between them they landed some fine salmon including one fish of about 14lb. Earlier in the week they caught on prawn but on Wednesday and this morning fly was the method which worked best.

Low water levels impacting on good salmon fishing on the River Fane

Fishing conditions have improved slightly on last week on the Fane. There are plenty of Salmon in the River, but due to the water level still low the Salmon are slow to take. It looks like we should get more rain this week and this will help improve the fishing. John Boyle from Crossmaglen had one Salmon yesterday and lost one as well as reports of other fish caught and lost. From now on anyone fishing on the lower part of the river-below Craigs Pool has a fair chance of getting a Salmon.

Special Notice to all Salmon anglers for the month of September

Please note that from 1st September to the close of the season, there is a daily bag limit of one salmon (any size) or one sea trout (over 40 cm) on all open salmon fisheries which are not subject to catch and release only regulations.

After the daily bag limit has been taken, anglers are permitted to fish catch and release, using single barbless hooks and anglers may not use worms.  Fish should be handled carefully and should not be removed from the water prior to release to ensure the survival of fish.

The killing and possession of foul hooked fish is prohibited.

Please remember that logbooks should be returned to the relevant IFI office by 19th October.

tope

Photo: Stephen Hayden wins Catch of the Week with a 54lb tope.

Stephen Hayden was fishing with friends off Bray for mackerel and tope when he had a great run of luck. Everyone on the boat got tope and they were all good fish, but the highlight of the day was a double hook up. The lucky anglers managed to get both fish to the boat and they weighed 42lb and 54lb. Stephen caught the bigger tope and this wins him Catch of the Week.
