Angling guide Mick Flanagan was out fishing with Gordon Davis who wanted to tick pike on the fly from his bucket list.

Box ticked! pike on fly

I field tested a few new F.H.M.S lures and they interested quite a few pike.  Gordon had nice pike on the fly and the lures tempted the big fish to attack.

Late in the evening i got stuck into a plonker in the spills of rain. It was a really lovely pike – 23lbs 9oz and 110cm.

Rosguill back on the fish despite late start

Tory Haddock

Michael McVeigh reports from the Rosguill fishing out of Mulroy Bay in Donegal:

2020 starts very late………..

But, the usual suspects are all there……..

Enough Mackerel around – not as they were seven or more years ago when by July they were everywhere in huge numbers, but spent just 20 minutes or so to get enough for the day. Hit a huge shoal of Herring – only picked up a few from it but got a dozen or so Mackerel which were amongst it.

Double Dog

Tory fished as normal, except the Flatfish were still not up to standard – 2/3 years now where Flatfish, especially Turbot & Brill, have been difficult to catch at Tory. Loads of Coalies (as damn usual), Gurnard, Whiting, Haddock, Doggies as expected.

Little Cod from the Gurnard ground

Mulroy Bay, loads of Thornbacks but no Flatfish – maybe just one of those days – we’ll see………..

Jigging for pollack – Amy’s Fishing Adventures

Sidney Kennedy and Amy were out again, fishing from Cork Harbour for Pollack…

We were fishing out of Cork with Glenn McCormack trying out pirks for pollack and we had some good fun. As it was Amy’s first time going for them she got some fright when the first one hit her and bent the rod, stripping line. The fish were between 3lb and 5lb  for the most part and I had one over 8lb.

Book a trip on the Clare Dragoon

Doubled up
Luke Aston reports from Carrigaholt:
So we are back fishing for a few weeks now in what has been a very strange year for us. Approaching the season I was very heavily booked but covid and the travel limitations have thrown that into chaos.
So lots of cancellations therefore lots of availability and your chance to book on for a trip this year. We mostly do full day charters and there is lots of info on my website www.fishandstay.com.
I was out with a Clare group last week, mackerel where thick at the loop, of a big size and over a large area. It’s great to see lots of seabirds working when you arrive down there and we also had some Pollack and Cod under them. We targeted a reef a bit further out and that had us on some Spurdogs. Plenty of them also and some big females through them.
Earn your spurs on the Clare Dragoon

We offer all types of trips including a chance to catch Sixgills over a 1,000 lbs, Bluefin Tuna, great Tope and Blueshark fishing as well as light tackle fishing for many whitefish species.

Defyin’ the odds – Christopher catches and releases 11.56lb trout on Lough Ree

Angling guide Christopher Defillon took a break from Lough Sheelin last week and tried his luck on Lough Ree for a change. The accomplished angler has featured many times in our reports over the years and he has an uncanny knack of connecting with some of the bigger fish that are swimming in our waters.

The photos and video say it all really, but for anyone interested in the stats – that trout is 76cm long and tipped Christopher’s scales at 11.56lb.
